Pa Nderry M'Bai is the Managing Editor/Publisher of the Freedom Newspaper. Mr.M'Bai used to be the Former Secretary General of The Gambia Press Union and also the Voice Of America Radio Africa Service Banjul Correspondent. While in the Gambia, Mr.M'Bai worked as a Senior Staff Reporter with the Banjul Based Daily Observer and the Point Newspaper respectively. Mr.M 'Bai is also the Africa Correspondent for the US based Blogger news network. M'Bai's journalistic pieces appeared on major journals, local and international. M'Bai set up the Freedom Newspaper with the support of his colleagues in a bid to expose official graft, corruption and rights abuses in the Gambia. The Freedom Newspaper came into being following the growing censorship in the Gambia, characterized by rights and governance crisis in that tiny West African country. With less than two years on the news stand, the Freedom Newspaper is now a household name in the Gambia and beyond its frontiers. Universities, Researchers, Rights activists and other development partners used the paper as their source of "true and credible" Gambian news. The paper is well accessed, well read and well circulated. Three Staff Reporters are currently on its payroll. All the three Reporters are resident in the Gambia. Landing Badjie is our Banjul Bureau Chief. He heads our Banjul offices. Badjie's main task is to coordinate the welfare of local stringers in Banjul, including their monthly payments and other budgetary needs. Landing replaces Editor Bah who was forced into exile by the Gambian Government. His stories are well read on the Freedom Newspaper and other international media outlets. Badjie believes that some journalists in the Gambia got to take the risk to serve its people."We owe it to our people to ensure that they get true, reliable and factual news about the Gambia. The private press here are censoring stories for fear of being arrested or harm by the government. We are aware of the risk that is associated with our work, but the job has to be done by someone. We are determined to serve our country, faithfully and honestly no matter what comes by our way. This is our country. As journalists, we should not shirk our responsibilities by allowing to be intimidated for nothing. I like the Freedom Newspaper and I'm committed to live up to expectations. Chief Correspondent Badjie can be reached at:editor@freedomnewspaper.com
Bolong Jammeh is our National Correspondent in the Gambia. He is Landing's Deputy. He covers Gambian local politics, mainly crimes and other human interesting stories. Like Landing, Bolong too got a wealth of journalistic experience. He contributed greatly in advancing the development of the Freedom Newspaper. He can be reached at:editor@freedomnewspaper.com
Wise Man is our Western Division Correspondent. He recently joined the Freedom Newspaper. He is tasked with covering Western Division and its surroundings. He authored most of our lead stories here at Freedom. Wise Man said he joined the Freedom Newspaper for two reasons: One, "There is no justice in the Gambia today. This is the only paper exposing injustices in our dear country. I like the Freedom Newspaper. I always have the ambition working with the Freedom Newspaper. I applied for the job and was hired. I like what I'm doing. I'm not doing this for money. Secondly, I felt that Brikama and the entire Western Division is not well covered by the Gambian local media. With my association with Freedom, I can help to highlight the needs and aspirations of the residents of the area through my news reports." Wise Man has proven to be dependable and reliable. His stories have never been disputed. In some instances, secret police in the Gambia, tried to conduct operations to get him arrested. His true identity still remains as a mystery to them. Wise Man said nothing can make him give up his Freedom Newspaper job. Correspondent Wise Man can be reached by email at this address:at:editor@freedomnewspaper.com
