Sana Bairo Sabally In Germany!!!!

….Sabally Wants Asylum

Former Vice Chairman Sana Bairo Sabally, is currently in Germany, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Mr. Sabally who spent about five years in Dakar, arrived in Germany recently. The former Junta number two man was jailed for nine years, before he was set free by the Government.

Worried about his personal safety, Sabally later resettled in Dakar, Senegal, where he stayed until his trip to Germany.

While in Dakar, Sabally claimed that he escaped numerous state sponsored abductions. He says  the personnel of the feared National Intelligence Agency wanted to abduct and possibly kill him.

Sabally was arrested in January of 1995, alongside with the late Captain Sadibou Hydara. The men were accused of plotting to assassinate former AFPRC Chairman Yahya Jammeh, a charge Sabally vehemently denied.

The Government in a statement had claimed that Sabally and Hydara opposed the two years Time Table, which was recommended by the National Consultative Committee for the then junta to handover the country to a Civilian Government. The men were accused of walking into the Presidential palace with the aim of assassinating the former Chairman.

The two were rounded up and later detained at the Mile Two prisons. They were charged with treason. But Hydara died whilst in custody.

A military court Marshal found Sabally guilty of treason and was sentenced to nine years in prison.  Former ADC Major Kalifa Bajinka was the star witness in that trial, which lasted for months.

During his tenure as Vice Chairman, Sabally was linked to numerous drive by shooting and persecution of Civilians. Although, non of the victims  affected by Sabally’s alleged persecution, came forward to testify against the former Vice Chairman, after his sacking, even though the Government of The Gambia at the material time had initiated an enquiry against him.

Sabally, a devoted Muslim,  was said to be instrumental in  the 1994 coup, which toppled the 30 year PPP rule. He was jailed barely six months after the military toppled the then Jawara Government.

Former Captain Sabally, is said to be trying to seek asylum in Germany at this hour.  At first, he wanted to resettle into the United States, but his US dream never materializes. For unexplained reasons, Sabally’s could not be granted asylum by the US Government.

News of Sabally’s presence in Germany, would come as a high sense of relief to The Gambian Government. The Jammeh Government had in the recent past accuses Senegal of backing Gambian dissidents, allegedly headed by Sana Sabally to topple the APRC Government. The Government went as far as dispatching its secret agents to mount surveillance on the activities of the said perceived dissidents in Senegal. It also made numerous request for the Wade Government to handover the suspected dissidents, but without success. Senegal refuses to handover the dissidents for security reasons.

Upon his return from his Bissau trip, Jammeh in a statement said Bissau would always handover Gambian dissidents, while referring to Dakar’s unwillingness to handover dissident rebels. The Gambian leader who was apparently caricaturing the Wade Government maintains that The Gambia/Bissau had reached bilateral ties to handover dissidents bent on destabilizing Governments in the region.

Past allegations that Sana Sabally and co wanted to destabilize the APRC Government, has been rendered unbelievable, since Sabally had left Africa for Germany seeking for sanctuary.

The Freedom Newspaper was recently contacted by a German based Refugee NGO to shed light on Sana Sabally’s past official activities, but we are yet to grant an audience to the said organization.
