Open letter to Jesus, Inspector General of Police on the daily observer.

By OC Cox Banjul Police Head Quarters

Dear Editor,
I wish to refer ot the 'open letter' in the Daily Oberver  dated 24th June, 2008 by One Mariama Jallow to Jesus, the Gambia's new Inspector General of Police. Mariama Jallow has very good advice for the Jesus, but let me make loud and clear that this is not the Jesus that can take the Gambia Police Force to higher heights. The fact of the matter is Jesus has never had any professional training and besides, he never worked beyond Brikama, in Western Region. Like Bem, he spend all his service within the greater Banjul area.
Training is the bed rock of any institution and without it, one cannot achieve desired abjectives. The professionalism the Gambia Police was known for have deminished drastically over the years. The Gambia people have witnessed the change of Inspector Generals since 1994 totalling to 10, on an average of one IGP every year. There has never been a smooth transition from one IGP to an other during this period.
It could be recalled that before 1994, if an IGP is retiring, a subsequent one is appointed to under study the out going one for almost six months before he is finally appointed. This  enables the new IGP to continue the programs of the out going IGP. This have never happened during the last 14 years and this is the reason of the poor performance of the Gambian Police. We have never investigated and detected a high profile case during the 14 years in question.

However, if only the Jesus will listen, perhaps, he may succeed, which I doubt very much. The Police have been tribalised to an extend that several others are not willing to give their best cause they are demoralised and on several times victimised as opposition supporters.
What is real is that the Jesus was indeed very rough and rude and has no respect for his superiors and apparantly, he was not in the good books of several officers. He was feared by many, except for those who knew their bits.Every one knows that he was dismissed by FRI Jammeh for drug dealing during the transition period and later reinststed after one year and all those with whom he was sacked with are still without jobs, whilst other are working with some private security companies in the greater Banjul.
Mariam Jallow's letter should be a wake up call to the Jesus and should learn from Ebou Njie, an easwhile IGP, whose low  level of education have earned him respect at the state house. Many will agreed that he was the best IGP  after Pa Sallah Jagne. Ebou will listen and learn and his sense of pubic relations was exceptional. He was able to manuver his way through at the Security Council at the State House. He fought for the Police and his lagacy will remain in the Police for several years.

Landing 13 Badjie is more busniess like than the Jesus, more matured and more trained.I doubt where 13 was not able to satisfy state house whether Jesus will? Lets wait and see!
