EX CMC DIBBA PERISHES IN JAIL!!

By Landing Badjie, Banjul

The prolonged detention of Burama Dibba, a former Crimes Management Coordinator with The Gambia Police Force, was  early today a hindrance to the progress of the trial of a former Gambian diplomatm to France.
CMC Burama Dibba has been in detention at the State Central Prison in Banjul for more than a month now without being charged or released as enshrined in the constitution of The Gambia.
Ex-CMC Dibba is a prosecution witness in the trial of Willy Joof on various allegations, ranging from official corruption to abuse of office to graft.
His trial was at an advanced stage when it got bogged down by the arrest and subsequent detention of Dibba.
The Banjul Magistraes' Court had today wanted to start from where it stopped more than a month ago-cross examination of Dibba- but it was once again frustrated when it learnt that Dibba could not be available in court as expected.
Readers may learn that Burama Dibba was arrested sometime last month for reasons unexplained to the public. He was later whisked away to the notorious Mile Two prison where he still languishes.
The continued detention of ex-CMC Dibba without being charged or released poses a serious question of how President values the very book that he swore to uphold-constitution. The detention of Dibba like many others will do little to the APRC Government's democratic credentials.Gambians and observers are concerned that the regime continues to arrest and detain people on the flimsiest of issues and without let. People want to see President Jammeh safeguard the constitution as well as create conditions that would be favourable to the country's political, democratic and economic health than creating conditions than conditions that would further expose the population to more hardships and humiliation.
" He[Dibba] is yet to be charged with any offence as we speak. The investigators are still investigating the matter," hinted our source.
