Minister Fatim Badjie Under Whose Services???

When President Jammeh privatized GAMTEL last year, there was mixed reaction across the country. The coming of  Spectrum Group, marks the end of GAMTEL. The company is today on its dead ebb. The company is not only faced by financial crisis, but low staff morale. All serious technocrats are gone. GAMTEL is today in the hands of  novice and the corrupt.

Information Minister Fatim Badjie cannot solve that mess at GAMTEL. She’s  too inexperienced to run our Information Ministry. Since her appointment, what significant project has  the Minister initiated? Don’t tell me the signing of  a Memorandum of Understanding between Dakar and Banjul. Fatim is just out there to earn her salary. Period. She  is not working at all.

A responsible Minister would have find a lasting solution to the current internet problems faced by the country. The entire Gambia is without an internet connection. This means that President Jammeh cannot communicate via email with his counterparts in other countries. Jammeh cannot also read his  perceived hate paper the Freedom Newspaper.

For Minister Badjie to win the confidence of Gambians, she needs to consider calling on Government to terminate the joint business venture, it reached with the Spectrum Group. This suspected Hezbollah ,  affiliated company is using GAMTEL to milk the coffers of the state. All funds derived from GAMTEL are wired to Lebanon.

The new owners of GAMTEL cared less about the sustainability of the institution. All they cared for,  is how to line up their pockets to the expense of the nation. Spectrum Group contributed to the current economic woes GAMTEL is going through.

Fatim Badjie  needs to be redeployed to the Daily Observer or GRTS, in the interest of rescuing GAMTEL. She is doing a disservice to herself and The Gambia, by failing to deliver the goods. What’s happening at GAMTEL is unacceptable.

Jammeh should put  tribalism aside and hire the right people for the job. The Information Ministry should be manned by highly experienced technocrats and not new school leavers. Fatim might earn all the degrees on this universe, but that does make her a good technocrat.

Fatim’s  lack of exposure into  the Public Service,  would to some extent affects her productivity. She needs to  familiarize herself with various Ministries  and the type of work carried out in these ministries.

Finally, we call on Minister Badjie to read this editorial with an open mind. It’s our firm belief that she should deliver or find a new job. By the way, congratulations for your recent marriage. Good luck and be a good wife. We rest our case!!!
