Yahya Jammeh Has
Done Nothing For The Gambia-Scales!!!
“Let us see just how much development the APRC can claim when we stop underpinning these morons with our hard earned cash. This is one endangered "Government" species that should be condemned in Africa along with Mugabe and some others not worth the mention.Time for " Change." …..Time to set the cat amongst the pigeons.?
May Allah in his infinite wisdom guide us and protect us....Michael.
Dear Mr. Editor,
Amongst the many failing "policies" of this APRC Government, none are of bigger consequence to The Gambia, than that of the education of The Nations children. It beggars belief!!!.... that as with so many areas of Government responsibility and after 14 .5 years of this failed administration, that there is still no clear and discernible parity across the length and breadth of The Gambia . I have visited many schools and found nothing which would commend anyone to clearly ascertain their collective aims and ambitions.
Yes ! there are a handful of good schools, which are privately funded, but by enlarge the majority, especially primary schools do not serve the nation well.
It is just not good enough for Professor Jammeh to blame the Gambia's youth for yearning for the opportunity of a decent education. Or to brand them as "dreamers" craving the free world and our standard of education, or a job or career opportunity. It is heartbreaking to see mosquito infested classrooms occupied by dedicated teachers and extremely well behaved children, having to share a pencil or a piece of paper, or skip school to trawl rubbish tips for something to eat. Yes !...... I too have seen this.
When the Executive meet, do they actually commit to action, any intelligent way forward, by setting in motion a well thought out collective policy to set the minimum standards, as a right for all Gambian children. Does the Minister for Education know exactly how many children are left outside mainstream education through poverty or neglect?
Does she know just how many children turn to prostitution to feed their parents and siblings?
I am aware that children whose parents have Government jobs or are the 15% whose parents have wealthy business's, concentrate their children to education with an increasing number sent to the U.K. for private and sponsored tuition. It strikes me that in 20 years time. the children who have parents in Government or business will take the place of their parents in high office to maintain the equilibrium of the APRC and its stranglehold on power.
Those who do not have the APRC ticket will remain on the outside, with little chance of contributing to the development of the nation. The Gambia is proceeding to create a sub class that will be determined by the condition of the parent..... not ! by the ability of the child. This is indeed...... a scandal.
Mr. Editor, it comes as no surprise to me that Democracy has been greatly diminished not only by the consolidation of power by the APRC ... and their many failures to show determination and leadership in policy making. But by the collective failure of The Gambia's opposition parties to challenge this and other concerns by placing party politics above the interests of the nations children. Where is the Barack Obama amongst you to stand for The Gambia. Or is he just another lost export to the West ?
Where is the freedom of choice and thought in The Gambia.? Who can honestly make an opinion that contradicts the bankrupt " thoughts" of Comrade Jammeh.Where is the argument and the contradiction.? Speak your mind and you will be imprisoned or fined heavily for sedition. The Gambia's tourist industry would do well to consider that the only safe visitor, should be at least 75 years old, in the company of his wife and to be deaf dumb and blind. Anyone else remains in mortal peril if they venture outside their hotel.
What inspired mind of any child could honestly grow thoughts and intelligence when reading the constant crap in The Daily Observer. This "Stepford Wife" mentality would be a Joke if it wasn't so "normal".
It occurs to me that the intelligent Gambians..those who have broken free to live here amongst us, owe a great debt of gratitude to you Mr. Mbai and your sister papers who speak freely and with passion. America has had free speech enshrined in its constitution for two hundred years. Their are no "sheep" in America that have to follow the crowd of guarded thought. If its wrong and you are outraged..you can say it and the free world will listen. May I highly commend those who risk everything to come online and speak? My old friend P.K. Jarjue is right about George W. Bush and his wife....They did stand for Africa. Matthew K. Jallow....is right to remind the world that so many of his compatriots are missing presumed dead. Less anyone conveniently forgets that the tariff for a coup in The Gambia is 20 years with hard labour. It would appear that this is only for those who tried and failed. An armed robbery does not distinguish between success and failure in the eyes of the Law.
You my friend are courageous to say that Democracy and Freedom are worth dying for, so our children can live in its supreme dignity and comfort to persue their dreams. How insulting of the Observer and Jammeh to call us names. We British have died in our millions preserving the rights that you as yet only dream of. Just which foxhole did Jammeh appear from to say such things.
Did Lt.Binneh Minteh not say that Jammeh and his insurgents on The Denton Bridge would use a grenade against Gambians if they did not stand aside?
Who was the enemy that morning on July 22nd 1994.....and where are his fellow insurgents resting just now. Only the Gambian people collectively had the right to remove the first Republic......I ask of you.....am I right or am I only dreaming.
Africa persists from the scraps of the tables of the richer nations. It is time we demanded that tax payers money comes only on condition of Freedom and Democracy for all , with an end to impunity. Let us see just how much development the APRC can claim when we stop underpinning these morons with our hard earned cash.
This is one endangered "Government" species that should be condemned in Africa along with Mugabe and some others not worth to mention.
Time for " Change." Jammeh and all coupists must Go !!
I remain, yours with sincerity....
Michael...United Kingdom.
