The controversial sedition case involving the seven Gambian journalists, has been moved to the High Court, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Presiding magistrate Sainabou Wadda Ceesay has formally decided to rescue herself from the case, and accordingly transferred the case to the High court. A  Nigerian mercenary judge in the person of Justice Wowo has been assigned to decide the fate of the charged journalists.

Judicial sources said the accused journalists are expected to take their pleas before the high court on July 3rd 2009. The journalists have been accused of publishing seditious materials against the President Yahya Jammeh.  They spent one week in prison prior to their bail.

The new judge assigned to the journalists case Justice Wowo used to be a senior state counsel with the Attorney General’s Chambers.  While at the AG Chambers, Wowo handled both Civil and criminal cases. He quits his job, and travelled to the United States, where he was working at a convenient store. Wowo could not withstand the life of an Immigrant, and  therefore, he decides to return to The Gambia, where he was appointed to the position of a magistrate, and later elevated to a high court  judge.

Information reaching the Freedom Newspaper suggests that magistrate Sainabou Wadda Ceesay  refuses to prosecute the indicted journalists on bogus charges. She was quoted as saying that her conscience could not allow her to try and jail the journalists on trump up charges, even though she recently convicted the Today Newspaper publisher.
