Treatment
By Staff Reporter Bakary Gibba, Banjul
Former army chief General Lang Tombong Tamba who is currently detained by The Gambian state was seen at the Royal Victorial Hosptial Teaching Hospital in Banjul Wednesday February 17th .
General Tamba received medical consultations amidst his ailing health, sources here said. He arrived at the RVTH overnight under heavy security escort, and was treated the same day.
Medical sources said General Tamba has been complaining about constant body pains, and the torture inflicted on him while under custody. The source said Tamba appeared weak, pale, and physiologically down.
An official of the RVTH told our reporter that General Tamba was not accorded admission even though his health condition is life threatening. The official said Tamba was treated the same night and discharged.
An insider at the Gambia Armed Forces command told this paper that the Army has nothing to do with Tamba's health situation—saying that it is proper to talk to the Prison authorities, or the Interior Ministry.
The insider noted that they can only dilate on the conditions of active Soldiers, but not Tamba who according to him is no more a soldier which is clear to all.
General Tamba was arrested last November, together with a score of top army officers, and has since been languishing in jail. The state is yet to press any charges against the former army chief. They were accused of coup plot, a charge the detainees vehemently denied.
