Obituary Announcement: Pa Lie Jeng Dies
Editor M’Bai Pays Tribute To Former Landlord
We regret to announce the sudden death of our uncle, father , and friend Pa Abdoulie Lie Jeng, AKA Pa Lie of Dibba Kunda. Mr. Jeng passes away this past Thursday, following heart related problems. Mr. Jeng was a devoted Muslim, who spent his lifetime helping the poor, and the needy.
Our Editor Pa Nderry M’Bai used to reside at Mr. Jeng’s home as a tenant before securing his personal house in Manjie-Kunda. Like, other tenants, Mr. M’Bai said Mr. Jeng treated him as a son, and was very instrumental in shaping his life as a young man.
“ I received the demise of Pa Lie with a deep shock. Mr. Jeng was like a father figure to me. I stayed at his home— until I moved to my home in Manjie- Kunda. He never treated me as a tenant. I was part of the Jeng family. Pa Lie was a lovable Dad, very jovial, charming, and entertaining so to speak,” Editor M’Bai said.
According to Editor M’Bai, the first time he met Mr. Jeng, he felt as if he was part of the old man’s family. He said Mr. Jeng relates with him freely, and assured him of his unflinching support during the course of his stay at his home.
“ Mr. Jeng told me right into the face that he is going to treat me as a son because my Uncle Fafa M’Bai was his close friend, and he reserves the right as a responsible elder to put me on the spot if I am found wanting. And he never minces his words. Jeng wouldn’t hesitate to coach, or praise me. I have great respect for Pa Lie. He was always there for us,” M’Bai said.
Mr. Jeng’s home was usually frequented by the boys in the neighborhood then. The Hamidou Jallows, (Hams), Batchsamba, Njiebaba, Essa Camara, (Babulli), Eben Wright, Banka Manneh (Banks), Pa Sadou Jallow, Jeggy Ann, Boy Jim, Alpha Salifu (Pangs), Macgi, Pa Nderry M’Bai, the list goes on and on….
Mr. Jeng and his charming wife Anta shared certain things in common. They both had good sense of humor. Very caring parents. They devoted their entire life helping the poor.
Late Friday night, Editor M’Bai called Yaanta Jeng to extend condolence to the family. She was very appreciative of our call, but was assured that we owe it to Pa Lie. That, Mr. Jeng contributed immensely towards our personal development.
The news of Pa Lie’s demise was communicated to us by a former tenant neighbor. Please join us to pray for Pa Lie’s eternal rest. May God preserve place for him in heaven.
