Gambia: An Open Letter to Amadou Samba Monday, August 30, 2010 (1733 reads)
An Open Letter to Amadou Samba
By Yero Jallow, Editor Gainako Newspaper
Dear Amadou Samba,
Previously, I have used my open letter style of communication to reach out to folks in trouble. Some did listen, and they yielded wisdom. Others never listened, and to them is continuous trouble. Yaya Jammeh is one of those idiotic dummies who never listened to my advice, and you can clearly see how muddy his’ is, from the ‘cooking pot to the frying fan,’ even though he pretends that everything is ok. The truth is not all glitters are gold. If Yaya Jammeh is able to disappear to a ground hole today without anyone seeing him forever, he will do just that, for he truly knows what awaits him, which is true justice!

Ambassador Essa Bokarr Sey Weighs In!!
By Ambassador Essa Bokarr Sey
(For legal reasons, let all parties understand that this article does not represent the mind, opinion or consent of Pa Nderry Mbai. This is coming from my own aisle within a professional context. He has nothing to do with it neither is it a legally binding text in that regard). After having heard that Amadou Samba was ready to sue the Freedom newspaper Inc and its proprietor Pa Nderry Mbai I exercised restraint before showing my “true colors” on this ongoing debacle. I did so while waiting to see ACTION first because law is based on credibility and evidence. Law does not recognize the ill feelings of those engaged on “witch hunting” or “settling old scores” with people who oppose a regime or the interest of some who are directly or indirectly benefiting from that regime. Now that Mr. Samba has acted and he also had people within the same regime back home working to clear his image before this latest move, on this side of the coin concerned citizens of The Gambia will be releasing their “cards” as the process continues within a professional context while basing everything on discipline, firmness and impartiality alongside.

HALAKE CLEARS PA MBAI!!!
Legal Opinion
Mr. Amadou Samba (Claimant)
V.
Pa Nderry Mbai (Publisher of Freedom newspaper)
Dear Pa Mbai,
In the Free Speech Act reproduced below, the United States Congress states as follows at Section 2, Para 4:-
“The First Amendment jurisprudence of the Supreme Court, articulated in such precedents as New York Times v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254 (1964), and its progeny, reflects the fundamental value that Americans place on promoting the free exchange of ideas and information, requiring in cases involving public figures a demonstration of actual malice--that is, that allegedly defamatory, libellous, or slanderous statements about public figures are not merely false but made with knowledge of that falsity or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity.”

Michael Scales Says He Is Ready To Testify In Court As Material Witness For Freedom Newspaper!
By Michael Scales, UK
My Dearest Friend and Editor,
It is of course, most regrettable and heart breaking when two long time and trusted friends....fall out. I have admired the hard working and industrious Amadou Samba for these past 10 years. I have taken his wise counsel on so many occasions. I have never betrayed his trust. Equally, I have come to know you Mr.Mbai as someone who has taken my confidence and patronage without favor. You have never betrayed my honesty or my concerns. Whilst we may have disagreed on small issues, we have never broken the ties that bind us. When I say I admire Gambian's...there can be no finer examples of your nation than....Amadou Samba and Pa Nderry Mbai. Both represent opinions in print that are both colorful and express in some depth..The Gambia that I know so well. You are a diverse and comprehensive nation...living in peace.

Tensions are mounting between the Casamance rebel faction Jakai, and Gambia’s security forces, following what the rebels called a “cross border” raid which led to the arrest of its members—accused of trafficking one ton of cannabis sativa into the West African country, the Freedom Newspaper can report. The Jakai rebels said the impounded drugs were intercepted in Senegalese soil, at a border village called Siwal. The rebels have since threatened to attack The Gambia in retaliation to Banjul’s move in stepping its territorial bounds. In response, authorities in The Gambia sent its emissaries to negotiate with the leadership of the Jakai rebels to avoid potential blood birth between the sister neighboring countries. The Jakai rebels have been linked to killing, and maiming of innocent civilians in the Southern Province of Casamance. The rebel group in a protest note to Banjul accused Gambian security forces of illegally arresting, and kidnapping its members during a cross border raid. The rebels maintained that the raided village was part of Senegal, and it was wrong for Banjul to violate international treaties on state sovereignty.

Devils Dreams in the Gambia- The Gambia’s long Nightmare?

A bad man doing bad things
By Alagi Yorro Jallow, Contributing Writer
Behind the tall white walls of the grandiose home of the president, ostriches, buffalo, camels and other exotic livestock roam neatly landscaped lawns—part of a vast private complex said to include a crocodile wetland and a lake topped with lotus flowers. In the poverty-stricken shell of a city outside the poorest pick through garbage for edible scraps. All around them are portraits of Sheikh Yahya Jammeh, in long robes, holding a copy of the holy Quran along with a sword and prayer beads. His Excellency Sheikh Professor Doctor Colonel Alhagie Yahya AJJ Jammeh is omnipresent, gazing solemnly from public building facades and beaming proudly from ubiquitous billboards. His image is even woven into the fabric of countless green shirts worn from the coast of Banjul to the farthest reaches of the forested interior. He is referred to locally as (Jilinka or Babilimansa) meaning in Mandingo “bridge builder”.

LAND COMMISSION (2010) in The Gambia

By Dida Halake, Contributing Writer
Editor M’Bai,
As I said in our Radio Freedom discussion, I think the Land Commission is long overdue but better late than never. It is like the appointment of someone of Ben Jammeh’s calibre as head of NDEA – again better late than never (It is quite extra-ordinary that today’s Daily Observer announces the seizure of another 1.2 tons of cannabis, following hard on the recent seizure of the 2 tons of cocaine. At this rate we would have to re-name the Smiling Coast and call it the “Narcotics Coast”!). But back to the Land Commission.
