Dictator Yahya Jammeh has granted “amnesty” to his former Secretary General and Presidential Affairs Minister Momodou Sabally, the Freedom Newspaper was reliably informed by Judicial sources. Mr. Sabally’s criminal case was scheduled for judgment on Tuesday, but a word came into the judiciary that Sabally has been pardoned by his former dictator boss. He was subsequently acquitted and discharged by the court. Mr. Sabally was slammed with multiple charges including abuse of office.
The prosecution in an indictment against the former SG, said on “4th July 2014 whilst serving as the secretary general, head of Civil Service and minister of Presidential Affairs, gave directives to minister of Finance and Economic Affairs at the time, Kebba S Touray, to enter into agreement on behalf of the Government of The Gambia with West Port Logistics Ltd without prior approval and thereby committed an offence.”
Mr. Sabally has categorically denied the charges. His lawyer Antouman Gaye, has consistently argued in court about his client’s innocence. Now dictator Jammeh has decided to let go Sabally, according to judicial sources.
