Gambia’s dictator Yahya Jammeh has fired his Planning and Policy Minister with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can report. Mr. Burama Kebba Sagnia, received his marching orders today. His replacement has not been named yet. No reason was advanced for his sacking.
Prior to his appointment as Policy Minister and subsequent firing, Mr. Sagnia, served as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was officially sworn into office as PS Foreign Ministry on October 29th 2009.
Mr. Sagnia has joined the list of fired Ministers and Public officers. He was recently included into Jammeh’s Cabinet. But he never served long in that position. Sources have hinted that more sacking would follow in coming days. The dictator is running out of ideas, as to how to steer the affairs of the impoverished tiny West African nation. The Jammeh regime is battling with acute budget shortages. Almost all donor and financial partners have turned their back against the dying regime. This is largely due to the regime’s lack of respect for human rights, rule of law and press freedom.
