The Special Criminal Court yesterday heard that the sugar level of the embattled former Gambian Petroleum Minister Ms. Sirah Walley Ndow Njie is extremely high and could pose as a serious health threat to her if not granted bail. Defense attorney Ida Drammeh informed the court that her client has been denied access to medical treatment despite her ailing health condition. “ From Thursday, 21st July 2016, my client was unable to access medical care,” said Ida Drammeh.

Ms. Drammeh asked the court to grant bail to Ms. Ndow Njie so that she can seek medical treatment. She said her client owns properties in The Gambia and would never jump bail.

In his ruling, Justice Ottaba ordered the Director of Prisons to allow the former Minister access to medical treatment. He also ordered the prison boss to enable the detainees to have access to food and proper medication.

Sira Walley and co are standing trial on charges of economic crime and abuse office. They have been detained for over a month without bail.
