Some prominent members of dictator Yahya Jammeh’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly are contemplating defecting from the regime, sources said. The defection of Ousman Sonko, former Interior Minister, has inspired some delegation members to jump ship before the imminent fall of the dictator’s rule. The delegation is led by VP Isatou Njie Saidy.

According to sources, some of the delegation members have been in touch with their families. Some have expressed the intention of defecting. It is not clear if the planned defection will take place before the UN Summit ends, but sources said some of the delegation members are the least happy with the state of affairs in Banjul.

The Gambian delegation is expected to leave New York this week. Our sources in New York said there is going to be some defections. Names of possible defectors have been brought to our attention. We have decided to preserve the names of those planning defect. They might change their mind. We are closely monitoring developments.
