The Special Criminal Court has started hearing a motion filed a team of lawyers representing Sarjo Jallow, the former Deputy Foreign Affairs and Fafa Sanyang of the GNPNC, demanding for their immediate and unconditional release from NIA custody, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Justice O Ottaba, is hearing the motion. The court heard that the NIA has flatly defied the court order with impunity.
At the commencement of the proceedings today, the defense team informed Justice Ottaba that their clients have not been released from custody even though the court had earlier ordered for their immediate release from custody.
The defense team argued that conduct of the NIA to flagrantly defy the court order is a serious violation of their clients constitutional rights. The defense also contended that the conduct of the NIA is a total disrespect of the judge order and the Islamic Republic of The Gambia.
This is not the first time that the Jammeh government has been defying court orders. Both Sarjo Jallow and Fafa Sanyang are being held at the NIA despite a court order instructing for their release. Both Jallow and Sanyang have been under custody for weeks without been charged.
