The Gambia Democratic Party GDC Deputy Leader Yusupha Jaiteh is our guest on Freedom Radio Gambia. Mr. Jaiteh has briefed us about the outcome of the Tuesday opposition talks. No hearsay, rumors; only facts will be reported.
Mr. Jaiteh has expressed GDC’s determination to form an alliance with the existing opposition parties. But at the same time he is disturbed by the ongoing efforts by certain members of the opposition to undermine the GDC. So far the GDC has garnered 13,000 nomination papers, when the requirement is 5,000.
According to Jaiteh, some unnamed party surrogates in the opposition have started approaching their supporters to collect voters cards under the pretext that they are representing the GDC, knowing that such information is completely false. He said some opposition surrogates even went to the extent of telling the GDC supporters that Mama Kandeh will be disqualified on nomination day and should renounce their support for Kandeh.
Mr. Jaiteh said in the absence of unity and sincerity there cannot be an opposition alliance. He said the opposition should stop the backstabbing and the undermining and concentrate on unity.
Mr. Jaiteh told Freedom Radio Gambia that Isatou Touray, the Independent Candidate was conspicuously absent during Tuesday’s meeting. Isatou, he said, also did not send any representative at the meeting.
