Few weeks ago, the Freedom Newspaper reported about one of the corrupt NIA agents posted at Gamcel/Gamtel, in the person of one Lamin Njie. Mr. Njie, was implicated in a multi million dalasi corruption pay to play racketeering at Gamcel, together with other Gamcel officials. Njie has been moved from Gamcel. He is no longer the NIA attaché at Gamcel. He has been moved to the NIA headquarters, until his fate would be determined.
Njie was in the business of acting in concert with corrupt Gamtel/Gamcel officials to swindle millions from the institution. He was widely feared by Gamtel/Gamcel management. Gamtel MD Baboucarr Sanyang, was always giving him money and free fuel coupons to ride around town. Mr. Sanyang even paid for the damaged NIA vehicle engine recently at the expense of Gamtel, the parent company of Gamcel.
Guess who replaced Lamin Njie? One Abdoulie Touray, a native of Brikama. Mr. Touray is the new NIA Liaison officer in charge of Gamtel/Gamcel. He used to be the NIA officer in charge of the Central River Region ( CRR).
In the meantime, Madikay Faal, a former NIA officer, who has been held for years without charges has been moved to the mile two prison. Mr. Faal, was taken out of his cell at the NIA today and transferred to the mile two prison. His weeping wife visited the agency, only to be told by NIA operatives that her husband has been moved to mile two prison.
Madikay Faal used to work at the NIA Department. He later had a problem with the DG of the Agency, Yankuba Badjie, who demoted him and relegated him to the position of an ordinary security officer.
Mr. Faal has been languishing in jail for years now without trial. The NIA said they are waiting on Yahya Jammeh to give them orders to release him. But other sources said Yanks Badjie is the one refusing to order for his release.
Mr. Faal is the breadwinner of his family. His absence from home will no doubt cause pain and hardship to his family. The NIA should charge or release him.
