The detained Gambian photo journalist Alhagie Manka, has been released from NIA custody, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Mr. Manka was picked up by the NIA on November, 10, 2016, shortly after dictator Yahya Jammeh presented his nomination papers at the Independent Electoral Commission. He was accused of photographing Jammeh’s motorcade.

Family sources have been confirmed the release of Mr. Manka from NIA custody on Wednesday. This followed a Freedom Newspaper story exposing the continued detention of Mr. Manka by the NIA. This medium can confirm that Manka is now a free man.

Mr. Manka could not be reached for immediate comment. He is said to be resting at home.
