APRC London based stalwart Pa Modou Mbowe, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the pro-government Daily Observer Newspaper, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Mr. Mbowe replaces Ousman Jatta, AKA Rambo, a Bakau born native.

Mr. Mbowe, took an active role during the APRC campaign trail to canvass votes for dictator Yahya Jammeh. His appointment came in the wake of an electoral results dispute in which Mr. Jammeh filed a lawsuit before the Supreme Court, challenging the legitimacy of President elect Barrow’s electoral victory. The Supreme court is yet to issue a decision on the pending lawsuit.

Pa Modou’s appointment came to our attention on late Monday. He has since assumed duties at the Daily Observer.

While the international community is pressing for Jammeh’s stepping aside from the Presidency, Mr. Jammeh is in the meantime, busy making appointments and firing officials working in his government. Gambian Ambassador to the United States, Omar Faye, has been recalled. This followed Faye’s recent open letter calling on Jammeh to allow the safe transfer of power. Faye has been instructed to pack his belongings and leave the embassy and his residence. His successor is yet to be named.

Similar appointments were made at the state controlled media. Lamin Manga, the runaway MD of GRTS, has been replaced Malick Jones. Mr. Jones, a former disco jockey, and also Information Ministry Permanent Secretary, has since assumed duties at GRTS.

Jone’s predecessor Mr. Manga, fled the country, a day after President elect Barrow’s electoral victory. Manga refused to execute a directive from dictator Jammeh to swtich off the GRTS broadcasting signals on the night of the elections.  The directive came in when election results were being announced by the Chairman of Gambia’s election Commission Alieu Momar Njai.

In another development, The Gambian Ambassador to the United Nations, Momodou Tangara, has been replaced. His Deputy Sam Sarr, has been appointed to succeed Tangara.

It doesn’t look like Jammeh is leaving the Presidency quietly or anytime soon.  He is determined to run the show until such a time that he is confronted with a brute force.
