Gambia’s longtime dictator, who recently lost the December, 1st elections to President elect Adama Barrow, has ordered for the closure of the private radio station, Teranga FM, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Teranga FM, has been closed with immediate effect. The station’s staff have been forced to vacate the premises until further notice. No reason was given for the closure.
Two NIA officers, accompanied by one Ebrima Badjie, also a senior official of the agency, walked into the radio station today to eject the staff. As we file this report, Teranga FM has been closed.
For the past couple of days, dictator Jammeh has been cracking down on his perceived opponents. The NIA has arrested folks sympathetic to the recent opposition alliance, especially “GAMBIA HAS DECIDED” campaigners.
Homes belonging to the ethnic group Mandinkas, are being closely monitored by Jammeh’s guards. Some of the homes have been designated as opposition supporters and marked with a ‘RED PAINT.” There were movement of troops around the said homes in Banjul on Sunday.
