Of course, it was Workers Day and in the Gambia it is marked with sporting events. This Monday, the female staff of the Gambia Bridge observed workers’ day with a football match at the Soma Mini Stadium.

This is the first local match organized by females since the inauguration of the Football carpet by FIFA Goal project.

They also used the opportunity to make friends and share some of their work with others. “We are women playing football which is a male dominated sports in the Gambia but we want to tell other women out there women can also play good football” said one of the players.

It may be hard to believe women sports especially football can be popular one day but with a slow interest of emerging millenniums one can possibly have faith in the future.
