Gambia’s longest serving Central Bank Governor Amadou Colley, and two Deputy Governors, and the Bank’s Finance Director, have been dismissed with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The latest house cleansing happened before close of business on Monday. A new batch of Directors and a Governor have taken charge of the bank with immediate effect, sources said. Also fired is Basiru Njie, Deputy Governor number two at the CBG. He is the husband of the Sira Wally Njie, the former Minister of Petroleum.  Deputy Governor Ms. Samba, has been fired as well.  Essa Drammeh, the bank’s Director of Finance, has also been shown the exit door. 

No reason was given for the recent purging at the CBG. Details surrounding the purge are scanty. Some names have propped up as among the new directors of the bank. One Bakary Jammeh, is said to be the new Governor of the Bank. Jammeh was the bank’s Director of Research prior to his elevation as CBG Governor. He replaces Amadou Colley.

Among the appointees also includes one Abdourahman Barrow, the brother of the Majority Leader of the National Assembly.
