There is a shakeup at the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. The GNPC Managing Director Abdoulie Jarra, has been removed. He has been replaced by Momodou Badjie, the former jailed official of the institution. Badjie, was jailed together with the former petroleum Minister Sirra Wally Ndow Njie and others by the former administration of dictator Yahya Jammeh. Mr. Badjie ha since taken over the office from Mr. Jarra, who is believed to be reassigned somewhere in the government.
GNPC insiders have started complaining against Badjie, even though he hasn’t stayed long in that office. They said Badjie has requested for his office to be refurnished, even though that office was recently commissioned after the GNPC moved from its old offices to the new petroleum house. Half a million dalasi was spent to furnish MD Jarra’s office, but Badjie said he wants the office to be refurbished all over again, said our source. This is a government, which says it is living under budget. That they have been confronted with acute budgetary shortages, and yet millions are being wasted daily.
As part of his return to the GNPC, Mr. Momodou Badjie, also wants his former Finance Director Madul Badjie to be reinstated. He has since made the request through the Secretary General Dawda Fadera. Badjie’s request has been approved by the SG. Mr. Madul Badjie will soon start work at the GNPC. He even met with Fadera, our source said.
The Badjies were fired from the GNPC, following the millions of dollars scandal at the GNPC. The government of Adama Barrow dropped the charges against the accused officials, and reinstated some of them into the government. Sirra Wally Njie is yet to be reinstated. One of the accused persons Mr. Fafa Sanyang, was appointed Energy Minister.
