DISCLAIMER on an article caption “Omar Sey, Ganyie Touray, Salifu Puye, Mambanjick and others are with the GDC” written by Samba P Jallow.
I Pa Njie Girigara wish state as follow:
That; during my forty years of political activities in the Gambia from 1997 to date I was never an executive member of any political party.
That; I first supported the NLP party led by Late Pap Cheyassin Secka in the 1977 presidential elections.
That from 1978 to 1991 I was politically dormant whiles concentrating on my business activities.
That; from 1992, I supported Honorable Bakary Bunja Darboe of the PPP in anticipation that President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara will not stand in the next elections slated for 1997.
Then came Yaya Jammeh’s coup d’état in 1994. I supported Jammeh from 1995 to 2005. I left Jammeh because he failed on all his promises he made to Gambians and became a lawless and wealth tasty president.
From 2007 to 2011, I supported Lawyer Oussainou Darboe of the UDP.
By 2016 Lawyer Darboe was indisposed by the constitutional age and the subsequent sad and illegal actions Jammeh meted on the UDP, which compounded lot of confusion leading to the December 2016 presidential elections.
Knowing fully well that elections will take place by any means, I decided to support Mama Kandeh and the GDC in July 2016 for the presidential elections. At the time GDC was the only declared candidate for the December elections.
In September 2016 I was approached by some Coalition members to join them but by then I had already given my word to GDC and also saw an election strategy by helping GDC pull militants away from the APRC thus paving the way for either Mama or Barrow to win Jammeh.
From the above brief expose of my involvement in Gambian politics, one can see that I was never an executive member of any political party in the Gambia. The main reason being that I am not an active politician and only decide to put my weight on the party of my choice during presidential elections.
I therefore wish to remain in this independent political posture whiles my main occupation remains in business enterprise activities.
As at now my political party is called “The Gambia” until such time that we approach the next presidential elections. In the meantime I will use my past time to write article on politics, government and society.
I wish all the Gambian political parties well and will decide which one to support when the time comes.
I wish to also thank the GDC and its leader for the esteem they have in my person.
Thank you for your attention.
Pa Njie Girigara.
