Former House Speaker and Jammeh Press Officer Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay is on the verge of setting up a political party, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Ms. Jahumpa is the daughter of the late veteran Gambian politician IM Jahumpa. She recently went to the offices of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to pick up a registration form to set up a political party. She is required to deposit one million dalasi with the electoral commission before her party would be registered with the IEC.

According to sources familiar with the story, Ms. Jahumpa, who is a political consultant is working on the final stages of her political party. She has started recruiting for membership and grassroots support for her party, our source intimated. The recruitment is on a low key, but she is vigorously trying to assemble her political team, our source added.

Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay, AKA FJC was a staunch supporter of dictator Yahya Jammeh’s APRC party. She relocated to Dakar during the peak days of dictator Jammeh’s rule. Though, she occasionally visits home to check on her family.

She is now back in the Gambia and is ready to go solo with her upcoming political party. She will be in Sierra Leone in coming weeks to cover the upcoming elections as an observer.

Ms. Jahumpa Ceesay is going to be the first Gambian woman to form a political party since independence from Britain in 1965. She has a huge following in the country.
